what do you think about wind power? Are you for it or against it? Why?
September 28th, 2009 | by Michael |puzzled321 asked:
I am for it because it is better than nuclear power, which will destroy everything around it’s radius and then some. With wind power it is better for the environment.

What’s your opinion and why?

Being an engineer, I think that wind power is definitely a wise investment. They plan to do a lot of things with wind power in Dubai. They are developing a new kind of building in Dubai which utilizes wind turbines and it actually powers the whole building and provides power to its surrounding areas. If you get a chance, google “Dynamic Architecture”

Wind power and Solar power are alike in which they both are “renewable” energy.
Any renewable energy is great. It is better than burning coal, natural gas, or other fossil fuels.
The only problem from wind power is the noise. Generally the more wind you are able to generate from the wind power plant you will have more noise. But there have been alot of advances that are cutting down on the noise.
However I believe wave generators are much better. Waves on earth are powered by the gravitational pull of the moon’s orbit around the earth. The moon is slowly floating away but still we can harness this power while we still have it.

Well, first of all, safe nuclear power will not destroy anything around it.
I am for wind power because it is renewable and does not produce greenhouse gasses. But it is not without its problems. Enormous amounts of land are required for wind farms. Also, turbine blades kill bats and birds sometimes. Bats don’t even have to be hit by the blades. Just the low frequency vibrations from them can kill them if they get to close.
Wind power can be part of the solution, but it is not reliable enough to fill all of our energy needs. And it is also not without its problems.

Wind power is awesome, but if the wind farm is FAR away from residential and work areas.
Infra-sound is a health problem that can make people feel stressed or sick (temporary, only when your in the zone, unless for a long period, then can be chronic). Bio-acoustic sickness is a good way to describe it.

Wind power is a wise choice for supplemental energy production for the long run. But it’s not perfect and it’s not the best. But windmills should be placed only out to sea as they create false images for weather radar. If weathermen/women are following a strong thunderstorm cell, and it crosses into a windmill radar disturbance, they might not be able to discern if/when the cell turns tornadic. Tornado warnings could be delayed for several minutes. Another alternative energy source is harnessing water currents (river currents and ocean waves). That might be more dependable.

In certain places it is cost effective but in most places not so much! The problem people don’t generally live where the wind blows all the time.

I’m all for renewable energy, but the way companies are going about wind turbines in the US is all wrong. They aren’t putting turbines in areas where the most electricity will be generated, they are putting turbines in areas where there is already a strong power grid for them to tap into. They are building huge wind farms in areas where the wind is very inefficient just so they can save money on transporting that energy.

I think it’s neat how it works and can help save money, but where I live (a really small town,) It’s pointless. All the money we make from doing this going green stuff is going to bigger areas that don’t even need the money.
